The Green Area Ratio (GAR) is a new environmental zoning regulation in the District of Columbia that took effect on October 1, 2013.
The Office of Planning and the District Department of the Environment are offering free training seminars on the GAR. Each seminar will provide an overview of the GAR, the plan submittal process, the GAR Guidebook, and the role of the Certified Landscape Expert. For more information, visit their website.
Solar has been included in the GAR, at a .5 multiplier level. For an overview of multipliers, how to measure your GAR, and more, review this slideshow: “GAR Training_Triggers and Intake_Public“.
MDV-SEIA intends to pose additional questions about solar’s role in GAR at an upcoming Zoning Commission hearing, date TBD. If you have questions or concerns about GAR, please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
