MDV-SEIA Seeks Operations and Jr. Policy Associate

Position:  Operations & Jr. Policy Associate


The Maryland, DC and Virginia Solar Energy Industries Association (MDV-SEIA) is a regional trade association comprised of more than 150 member companies that touch all aspects of the solar value chain. MDV-SEIA members design, sell, integrate, install, maintain and finance solar energy equipment for residential, commercial, and institutional customers throughout the region. Among our ranks are the accountants, attorneys, builders, architects, electricians, plumbers, and consultants that support the solar industries.


The Operations and Jr, Policy Associate will support the efforts of the Executive Director to manage the ongoing business of the Association and expand its membership. The Associate will also lead communications efforts and provide policy support to the Executive Director as needed. The Associate will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the Mid-Atlantic’s brightest thought leaders to advance the Association’s mission.

The ideal candidate must be ambitious and entrepreneurial with a demonstrated interest in renewable energy, willing to roll up their sleeves to fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:

Membership Engagement, Operations, & Fundraising

  • Fundraising on behalf of the Association, including but not limited to recruitment of members and conference sponsors.
  • Supporting events – including annual Solar Focus Conference – through speaker recruitment, day-of operations support, and other event logistic needs
  • Coordinating with MDV-SEIA members by email and phone, and respond to inquiries related to policy, the status of their membership, as well as other member needs
  • Processing member invoices and lead new member onboarding efforts


  • Distributing bi-weekly newsletter and develop its content
  • Managing MDV-SEIA’s social media presence
  • Writing and posting policy-related blogs to the MDV-SEIA website
  • Drafting press releases and pitch op-eds and earned media to newspapers and other publications

Administrative Support

  • Maintaining MDV-SEIA website
  • Scheduling meetings for the Executive Director with key policymakers
  • Coordinating internally with MDV-SEIA’s staff and Board of Directors to shape the company’s go-to-market strategy and associated policy goals
  • Coordinating externally with member companies in developing and policy positions

We Are Looking for Someone Who:

  • Has a demonstrated interest in renewable energy or related fields
  • Has a sense of humor
  • Has an optimistic outlook and “can-do” attitude
  • Is highly organized & proactive
  • Has strong communication skills, both in person and in writing
  • Has strong research skills
  • Is comfortable in social situations and with meeting new people
  • Prioritizes well and pays attention to detail
  • Has experience with event planning, e-communications, and web content management systems
  • Takes on challenges big and small, is a problem-solver and is willing to go the extra mile
  • Is proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Has a Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year institution
  • Has 1-2 years of work or internship experience

Location & Hours: The position is located in Washington, D.C. The Associate will work alongside the Executive Director at MDV-SEIA’s offices (located near Metro Center). Our core business hours are 8:30am to 6:00pm with the expectation that the Associate will work additional hours when necessary, and travel to events outside of business hours with relative frequency.  The Associate must be comfortable working remotely, but will be required to live in the Mid-Atlantic in order to attend meetings.

Commitment & Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with experience. In addition, MDV-SEIA will provide the Associate with commission based on sponsorship and membership revenue raised by the Associate.
