You are cordially invited to participate in a stakeholder meeting on August 20th, 2019 sponsored by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to discuss progress of the Virginia Pollinator-Smart Solar Industry project. The central purpose of the project is to develop an ecologically responsible, pollinator-smart model for utility-scale solar developments. The model will guide Virginia’s solar industry stakeholders in supporting improvement of pollinator habitat on solar sites. Key components of the model include Virginia’s Solar Site Pollinator/Bird Habitat Scorecard, the Virginia Solar Site Native Plant Finder tool, creation of a comprehensive user’s manual and site monitoring plan for program participants, and a business plan that will be used to establish a native seed industry in Virginia.
Meeting Goals: To continue to provide stakeholders with an update on progress and accomplishments for the DEQ-DCR model and initiate open discussion to solicit feedback from key stakeholder groups. A formal agenda will be provided via email before the August 20th meeting.
Who should attend? All individuals and groups that are involved in utility-scale solar development within the Commonwealth of Virginia, including regulators, state and federal agencies, localities and municipalities, utilities, non-profits and NGO’s, seed vendors, and consultants.
